The eight originals and one traditional song on this album draw from Carla’s recent Peace Corps tours in Azerbaijan, Togo, and Benin, to bring listeners reflections from these places and stories from the experiences in between. With bluesy notes and rhythms from West Africa and Central Asia, plus her uniquely rich and textured vocals, Who Are My People? is a more outward-looking, upbeat companion to her introspective debut.
